The Bay have been “flooded” with queries from owners in relation to Council Tax. It appears that due to the changes in legislation, properties that are not (or available to let) for long enough or who haven’t returned the valuation form correctly have been put onto Council Tax even though you may not have been paying this before.
Victoria has contacted North Yorks and has supplied the following information. Please be aware that neither The Bay or the FBOA can advise on individual circumstances and you should contact the council and or the valuation office about your own circumstances.
You will note that there are two screenshots – one about the new rules and one showing that North Yorks will class the Bay exempt from the double council tax rules.
Message from Victoria (Guest Services Manager)
Hi,
Following calls from owners who have received a council tax bill for their properties and believe this is in error, I have reached out to the local taxation office for some clarity.
Guidance on the implementation of the council tax premiums on long-term empty homes and second homes – GOV.UK – We now fall under Class L.
Please also see the 2 emails from SBC, please take the time to read and gain some understanding so you can advise owners.
I have spoken to Anthony from FBOA, he is kindly going to send this out to Association members.
Any questions please let me know.
Kindest regards,
Victoria
